Secret Getaways in South Korea

With the continuation of Covid pandemic, we have been getting used to the daily life that has changed overnight for the last 2 years. While vaccinations are provided around the world, the domestic vaccine provision has been lacking in Korea currently. Therefore, people have been automatically looking for and enjoying domestic travel rather than traveling overseas. So instead of the obvious places like Jeju island or Busan, here are some places to travel in Korea although they aren’t widely known, but could be a part of your new memories.

Pangyo Village, where you can feel the sensibility of ‘Newtro(New+Retro)’ which has been a hot topic recently, is a place where you can feel the Korean style of that era as if the time has stopped around the 1970s. Because of the remaining buildings built at the time of Japanese occupation and fonts that are written from a long time ago, the atmosphere of the ‘retroness’ is more prominent. You may be a little surprised by the shabby appearance at first, however, it would be a unique place to be visited once in your life.

03. 경북 군위군 (Gunwi-gun in Gyeongbuk)

This place was once a filming location of Korean drama, “Little Forest”, which is famous for one of the “healing” movies that were made in South Korea. For those people who already have watched the movie may know, this location is characterized with a very relaxing and purified look being close to nature unlike the city that is complex and noisy. It would be an opportunity to move away from the city center, be a part of nature and have a peaceful time if you visit here as vacation.

Along with this, there is a village named ‘Hanbam(midnight) Village’, that is also known as “Jeju Island in the inland”. Walking along the stonewall path between the old fashioned houses will make you feel the atmosphere that you can’t easily find in the city center.

04. 충남 서산 (Seonsan-si in Chungnam)

Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, is one of the recommended destinations for spring trips. If you think of spring flowers, they are mainly cherry blossoms, plum blossoms, and forsythia. However, you can find a field filled with daffodils that will remind you of waves of flowers instead of waves from the beach. Along with that, Yongbi Reservoir in Seosan is a go to place for photographers. The name ‘Yongbi Reservoir’ means a pond where dragons swam and played and was named after the dragon because it boasts wide and clean water. You will be able to see the starry skies at night and it is said to be spectacular when flowers are in full bloom.
