As part of the WILD family, we had the pleasure of chatting with Erna about how she got into YouTube and her journey so far.
Please introduce yourself.
Erna: Hi, I’m Erna and I am a YouTuber. I’m originally from Indonesia, but am now based in South Korea. I started creating content on YouTube almost 6 years ago and I make a variety of content from lifestyle vlogs, beauty and fashion.
What does a typical day in your week look like?
Erna: If I were to describe my typical day, it would be pretty basic. My typical day is just filming and sharing bits and pieces of my life as an expat travelling and living in Korea as part of content for my “Ernies”, which is what I call my fans. And when I’m at home, I usually start off the day replying to emails, spending time with my cat, Yuri and catching up on work that I have yet to complete.
Who was your inspiration for starting your career?
Erna: I remember the first YouTuber that I watched was Pony, a South Korean Beauty Youtuber. She has such a lovely personality on camera and you can tell that she works so hard for everything that she has achieved in her career. I loved her makeup tutorials and felt so inspired to share my own knowledge of beauty with others.
So, I decided to take a chance and filmed my first video for YouTube. Although I started off as a beauty content creator, I transitioned into lifestyle vlogs as they got more popular with my audience.
What has been the most memorable part of your career, so far?
Erna: That has got to be my first ever fan meeting in Indonesia. To be honest, I was quite surprised that my subscribers made the effort to come and meet me in person. It was definitely a different experience being able to meet and interact with my fans in person. Some of my Ernies were so sweet and even brought me handmade gifts! What surprised me even more was that I even had a few male fans as well. It felt so surreal and fascinating.
It was definitely an unforgettable experience and I am always forever grateful for my Ernies and audience who have been me from the beginning.
What would you say is the best part about your career?
Erna: I know that I have been very fortunate enough to be able to have such a successful career in something I am passionate about. Being a YouTuber has definitely opened up so many more opportunities for me. My world before YouTube was small, I had a circle of close friends from my life and school, that was about it. But ever since I started on YouTube, I have been able to meet and connect with people from all over the world.
Give us a fun fact about yourself.
Erna: I’m not sure if this is considered a fun fact, but people always find it amusing when they find out I am multilingual. I know how to speak Indonesian, Mandarin, Korean, English and two Chinese dialects.
